In preparation for the 2027 fiscal year, the Yobe State Government has held a one-day Stakeholders and Citizens Engagement at the Damaturu Local Government Town Hall.

The engagement brought together traditional rulers, civil society organizations, development partners, community groups, and professional associations to gather citizens' needs and aspirations for inclusion in the budget.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Garba Gagiyo, said the engagement reflects the Federal and State Governments' commitment to inclusive and participatory budgeting, as provided for in the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

Gagiyo noted that the needs and aspirations collected at the forum would form an integral part of the 2027 fiscal year, stressing that the Yobe State Government has always remained realistic in ensuring transparency and accountability for sustainable development.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Ibrahim Buba Kalallawa, assured of the legislature's support in ensuring a people-oriented budget and improved revenue generation for the benefit of the state.

Declaring the engagement open, the Special Guest of Honour, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohamed Goje, said citizen engagement and participation remain central to the Yobe State budget process.

The SSG said the current administration believes that government must listen before deciding, noting that the participation of CSOs and partners will ensure that public expenditures remain responsive to the needs of the people.

Dr. Goje stressed that in preparing the 2027 financial projection, the state government will be very realistic.

He disclosed that the proposed budget for the 2027 fiscal year is N437 billion, adding that the average N78 billion decline reflects the state's commitment to fiscal realism, credibility, and sustainability in implementing credible projects within the time limit.

Various stakeholders at the occasion presented and submitted their needs and aspirations to be captured in the 2027 budget.
