Gov. Buni Enacts N515bn 2026 Budget, Inaugurates New LG Chairman

Governor Mai Mala Buni on Tuesday signed into law the Yobe State 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦515 billion, setting the financial and developmental agenda for the coming fiscal year.

The signing ceremony, held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Damaturu, provides the legal framework for the state’s expenditures and enables the funding of government policies, programs, and capital projects across key sectors.

During the same event, Governor Buni administered the oath of office to Alhaji Adam Jibrin as the new Executive Chairman of Yusufari Local Government Area. 

Jibrin’s appointment follows the passing of the former chairman, Alhaji Baba Abba Aji, who died on Sunday after a prolonged illness in Cairo, Egypt.

In his remarks, Governor Buni described the 2026 budget as a strategic tool for consolidating the state’s developmental gains and accelerating sustainable growth.

“The signing of this budget underscores our commitment to responsible governance and transformative service delivery," the governor stated.

He noted that the budget, titled "Budget for Economic Growth and Infrastructure Transformation," builds on ongoing progress across sectors such as education, agriculture, employment, and infrastructure, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life in Yobe State.

Governor Buni also commended members of the Yobe State House of Assembly for their diligence and collaboration during the budgetary process, noting that the executive and legislative arms are united in vision and purpose.

He disclosed that the initial budget proposal of ₦550.583 billion was revised to ₦512.532 billion following legislative scrutiny and adjustments.The final allocation designates ₦291.903 billion (62%) for capital expenditure and ₦223.628 billion (38%) for recurrent services.

"I reassure our people that in implementing this budget, we shall uphold the principles of transparency, due process, and fiscal discipline that have guided this administration," Governor Buni affirmed.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, state lawmakers, traditional rulers, security chiefs, religious leaders, and community stakeholders, reflecting a broad consensus on the state’s developmental trajectory.
