Governor Mai Mala Buni has commended over 400 graduates sponsored by the Yobe State Government to study in Indian universities, saying they have done the state proud.

The graduates, known as Buni Scholars, visited the governor on Tuesday in Damaturu to express their gratitude upon completing their studies in health-related and engineering courses.

'You have done us proud over your successful graduation and for not dragging the name of the state to shame and disgrace,' Mr. Buni said.

Fatima Kolo, spokesperson for the graduates, thanked the governor for the opportunity, which she said they utilized effectively for their benefit and the state.

'Thank you Your Excellency our Governor for giving us this opportunity at the very beginning of our lives. We assure you of upholding this legacy and giving back to the state,' she said.

The governor urged the graduates to serve the state effectively and efficiently to justify the government's investment and sponsorship in their studies.

In a related development, Mr. Buni also received a thank-you visit from representatives of the state's permanent secretaries over the recent upward review of their salaries.

He charged the permanent secretaries to justify the government's confidence and investment in them by serving the people better.

'You are the role models of the younger civil servants working under you, you should therefore lead by example,' he said.

Abdullahi Musa, the head of service, noted that the salaries of permanent secretaries had been static since 2006, and all efforts to get them reviewed had been futile until the current administration.

He assured that the permanent secretaries would justify the gesture to the best of their ability.
