In a bold move to position Nigeria's North East at the heart of the country's emerging green economy, the Climate Awareness Advocacy and Resilience Initiative (CAARI) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing climate awareness and resilience, spearheading advocacy efforts across the region at a landmark one-day hybrid engagement and workshop on green jobs and low carbon transition.
The workshop, themed "Catalysing Green Jobs Through Low Carbon Transition in Nigeria," was organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy in collaboration with CAARI, the Include Knowledge Platform, Advocacy for Policy Innovation, and the Society for Development and Community Empowerment (SDCE).
The event was held simultaneously in Owerri, Imo State (South East) and Damaturu, Yobe State (North East) on Thursday, 17th September 2026, drawing stakeholders from across the country to discuss pathways for catalysing green jobs through low carbon transition, with a focus on creating employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
In his remarks at the Owerri venue, the Chairman of the House Committee on Renewable Energy, Hon. Afam Ogene, assured participants that the renewable energy bill would be passed before the upcoming 2027 general elections a commitment that signals strong legislative momentum for Nigeria's green transition.
Also speaking,the House of Assembly Member and Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Imo State, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, encouraged all participants to be vigilant and open their minds to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the green energy sector.
In his remarks in Yobe State, the Climate Action Lead for CAARI, Dr. Mohammed Baba Adamu, reiterated the organization's dedication to advancing climate awareness and resilience initiatives.
He emphasized that CAARI remains at the forefront of grassroots advocacy, ensuring that communities across the North East are not left behind in Nigeria's green energy transition.
According to him, CAARI's role in coordinating advocacy across the North East was pivotal in bridging the gap between policymakers and local communities, particularly in connecting job seekers with employers in the emerging green energy sector.
He revealed that the programme aims to connect job seekers with employers in the green energy sector a move poised to unlock new economic opportunities for the region's teeming youth.
Also,the Yobe State Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Hajiya Binta Aliyu, and the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Yobe State House of Assembly, Mal. Asheikh Mustapha, reaffirmed their commitment to creating more awareness about the opportunities the green sector provides.
The hybrid engagement brought together stakeholders from across Nigeria, underscoring a shared resolve to drive job creation, sustainable development, and a just low carbon transition with the North East firmly positioned at the centre of the conversation.
