No fewer than 8,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and National Democratic Congress (NDC) have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State.
The mass defection took place at Sabon Garin Nangere in Nangere Local Government Area, with the decampees drawn from Fune, Fika, Potiskum, and Nangere Local Government Areas.
The defectors were led by prominent opposition figures, including the state chairman of the NNPP, Yakubu Shehu Damagum; the PDP chairman for Potiskum Local Government, Ali DPO; the Yobe State PDP Chairman for Persons with Disabilities; and the PDP Youth Leader, among others.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by his Deputy,Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana received the new members.
He expressed delight at their decision to join the ruling party and assured them that they would enjoy equal rights alongside existing APC members, emphasizing that the party believes in a united Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Yobe State APC Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Gadaka, pledged to integrate the new members into all party activities.
He urged more citizens from other political parties to join the APC in the collective effort to move the state forward.
Gadaka also congratulated the decampees and advised them to align with the policies and programmes of the present administration under the purposeful leadership of Governor Buni.
The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, congratulated the new members and charged them to mobilize their followers to turn out in large numbers to vote for the APC at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, the APC gubernatorial candidate, Alh. Baba Mallan Wali, who was represented by his running mate, Barrister Sale Samanja, expressed gratitude to the people of Zone B and conveyed optimism that the APC would deliver at all levels of government.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Ali DPO and Yakubu Shehu Damagum described their decision as timely and strategic, citing the people-oriented programmes of Governor Buni's administration.
They specifically praised the governor's transparent leadership, particularly the equitable distribution of recent employment opportunities and political appointments across the state, noting that Zone B currently occupies key positions, including the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, and State APC Chairman.
The event was highlighted by the formal presentation of APC flags to the new defectors by the Deputy Governor and the State APC Chairman.
