Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has officially launched a suite of new banking products and flagged off the maiden Yobe Business Community Development Day, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to economic recovery and enterprise empowerment across the state.
The event, organized by the Yobe State Microfinance Bank Limited and held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, brought together key business and financial sector stakeholders to discuss enterprise development and financial inclusion.
Governor Buni unveiled several products designed to deepen financial inclusion and improve service delivery for traders, farmers, and entrepreneurs.These include electric motorcycles for staff mobility, home solar energy solutions, wallet accounts, POS channels, ATM cards, and banking cubicles.
The Governor expressed confidence that these initiatives would enhance the capacity of beneficiaries and improve efficiency across the state.
“I am confident that the electric motorcycles,home solar energy solutions, wallet accounts, POS channels, ATM cards, and banking cubicles designed to drive financial inclusion would improve the capacity of the beneficiaries and enhance efficiency in service delivery," Buni stated.
Highlighting the strategic importance of microfinance banking, Governor Buni noted that the institution serves as a critical bridge promoting business relationships and capital movement among small traders in Potiskum, farmers in Gashua, artisans in Nguru, and young entrepreneurs in Damaturu.
The Governor also recalled the severe economic consequences of the security challenges that forced most commercial banks to close their branches in the state, robbing Yobe of several economic opportunities.
He revealed that his administration found it expedient to ensure the state owned microfinance bank remained financially healthy to serve the people.
Commending the management and staff, Governor Buni praised the bank’s leadership under Professor Sheriff Almuhajir for not only keeping the institution afloat but transforming it into one of the most successful microfinance banks in the country, earning endorsements from supervisory agencies and customer confidence.
The Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr. Mohammad Goje, who also serves as Chairman of the bank’s Board, noted that records show the Yobe Microfinance Bank now not only competes with banks nationwide but proudly leads in treasury and card management for the state.
