Borno State has explored emerging technology solutions from Moscow at GITEX Nigeria 2026 in Lagos, as part of efforts to identify innovations and partnerships that can support the digital transformation agenda of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, Governor of Borno State.
The engagement was undertaken through the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (BICTDA) during the State’s participation at the technology exhibition, which brought together technology companies, innovators, investors and government institutions from Nigeria and beyond.
The BICTDA delegation was led by the Agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Mohammed Ahmed Kabir Wanori, FNSE, and included the Chairman of the BICTDA Board, Dr. Idriss Mohammed Yelwa, and Board Member, Prof. Mustapha Tijani.
At the Moscow Pavilion, the delegation met with representatives of participating technology companies and received presentations on solutions covering Artificial Intelligence (AI), enterprise software, digital transformation platforms, business automation and smart-city technologies.
The discussions gave the delegation an opportunity to see how some of these technologies are being applied and to consider where they could be useful in Borno State, particularly in digital government, data management, smart infrastructure, cybersecurity, urban development and public service delivery.
The engagement is in line with the digital transformation agenda of the Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum administration, which places technology and innovation at the centre of efforts to improve governance, strengthen institutions and create new opportunities for the people of Borno State.
Speaking during the engagement, Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori said the State was deliberately looking beyond its immediate environment to learn from technology companies and explore partnerships that could address its development needs.
“Our presence at the Moscow Pavilion reflects our deliberate effort to connect Borno State with global technology ecosystems. We are interested not only in the technologies themselves, but also in building meaningful partnerships, promoting knowledge transfer and adapting global innovations to address our local realities.”
He added that BICTDA would continue to engage credible technology companies and innovation partners to identify solutions that are practical, scalable and relevant to Borno State.
As a next step, BICTDA will review the technologies presented and assess those with potential applications in Borno State. The Agency will also follow up with the relevant companies to explore areas of cooperation, including technical knowledge exchange, capacity building, technology transfer and, where appropriate, pilot projects.
The assessment will consider the suitability, cost-effectiveness, scalability and sustainability of the technologies before any decision is taken on possible adoption.
The objective is to ensure that engagements such as the Moscow Pavilion visit lead beyond exposure to technology and create opportunities for practical collaboration that can improve government services, strengthen digital systems and deliver tangible benefits to the people of Borno State.
