The Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has described Yobe State as a trailblazer in Nigeria's livestock sector, commending its exceptional performance under the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).

The Minister made the remarks during a two-day working visit to the state, which included an assessment of L-PRES activities, an inspection of the Nasari Grazing Reserve in Jakusko Local Government Area, and a tour of the Potiskum Cattle Market.

Hon. Maiha was received at the Government House in Damaturu by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, who stood in for Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The Minister applauded the Yobe State Government for establishing a dedicated Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a forward-thinking move that is already yielding tangible results.

He revealed that Yobe has emerged as the top-performing state in Nigeria under the L-PRES initiative, excelling in implementation, performance tracking, and record keeping a feat he said reflects the administration's commitment to agricultural transformation.

Maiha also disclosed that the Federal Government is collaborating with the state to establish additional livestock development centres and modern abattoirs across Yobe.
According to the Minister, the new facilities are expected to generate thousands of jobs, boost local economies, and significantly strengthen the livestock value chain from production to processing.
