The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has announced that Yobe State has recorded no major farmers-herders conflicts resulting in loss of life or destruction of property so far in the 2026 farming season, attributing the success to the proactive peace-building policies of Governor Mai Mala Buni's administration .
The declaration came at the end of a press conference held in Damaturu on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the association's ongoing nationwide house-to-house sensitization exercise for sustainable peace and 2027 electoral preparedness.
The high-level meeting brought together representatives from all 17 Local Government Areas, security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations .
KACRAN National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, described the annual sensitization drive as "a deeply rooted Yobe tradition aimed at nipping potential disputes in the bud."
He emphasized that the association has been actively engaging communities from the start of the rainy season when farmers begin clearing their land to prevent problems from escalating into the harvest period .
"From the very start of the rainy season when farmers begin clearing their land, we at KACRAN step in to ensure that all necessary safeguards are in place," Bello stated. "Our commitment is to ensure that from now until the end of the season, Yobe state remains peaceful and secure" .
The conference noted that owing to the consistent support of the Yobe State Government for KACRAN's annual sensitization drive, farmers and herders in the state now relate as partners in progress, recognizing their shared role as critical drivers of food security and contributors to Nigeria's GDP. This contrasts with unfortunate narratives in some states where they are wrongly positioned as adversaries .
In its resolutions, KACRAN called on farmers to desist from encroaching into gazetted grazing reserves and blocking established cattle routes, while urging herders to refrain from grazing on cultivated farmlands. Both parties were advised to shun self-help and jungle justice, reporting any misunderstandings to constituted authorities .
The conference commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his total commitment to agriculture and investment in the sector, describing his leadership as exemplary in maintaining harmony between these vital groups of nation builders.
KACRAN also applauded the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its pivotal role as the bedrock of development in the region through investments in security, water, housing, schools, and other social interventions .
The association passionately appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all state governors to emulate the leadership model of Governor Buni in engaging stakeholders to achieve amicable resolutions to conflicts at both federal and state levels .
As part of the ongoing sensitization campaign, KACRAN is conducting a door-to-door, community-by-community awareness drive that also encourages members to complete their online registration and retain their voter IDs in preparation for the 2027 general elections .
