The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has expressed deep concern over the resurgence of violent attacks in parts of Niger State, condemning the actions of both bandits and vigilante groups that have resulted in loss of lives, arson, and destruction of property.
Citing media reports and social media footage depicting acts of brutality, the association noted with grave sadness that innocent citizens are being caught in the crossfire of reprisal attacks.
KACRAN described the situation as "unacceptable," warning that the violence has rendered thousands homeless and threatened the centuries-old peaceful coexistence among communities in the state.
In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, KACRAN issued separate appeals to all parties involved.
The association urged an immediate cessation of criminality, the unconditional release of hostages, and a return to dialogue, stressing that violence destroys livelihoods and communities.
While acknowledging their role in community protection, KACRAN cautioned against reprisal attacks and jungle justice, warning that chasing neighbours into forests only fuels recruitment by criminal elements and deepens insecurity.
"You cannot build your temple on the ruins of your neighbour's settlement," the statement read, urging all parties to reconcile and work with constituted authorities.
KACRAN emphasized that Niger State is a critical component of Nigeria's food basket, warning that continued unrest would have direct consequences on national food security and stability. The association called for an immediate halt to the violence to protect agricultural production and livelihoods.
The association praised Niger State Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his "persistent, courageous, and people-oriented efforts" in restoring peace and driving agricultural transformation.
KACRAN specifically applauded his investments in large-scale rice production and his commitment to justice and fairness for all citizens.
KACRAN appealed to Governor Bago to establish designated Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in safe areas to provide immediate relief for those currently taking refuge in bushes, and to provide adequate support and relief materials to enable displaced families to return to their ancestral homes and rebuild their lives with dignity.
The association called on the Federal Government and other state governors to emulate Governor Bago's leadership in prioritizing peacebuilding, agricultural production, and the equitable treatment of all Nigerians.
