The Yobe State Government, through the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Community Development, on Monday presented an assortment of sports materials to personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces and four other paramilitary agencies at the Ministry's headquarters.
Performing the presentation, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Muhammad Gidado Abubakar, who represented the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, Community and Social Development, stated that the gesture was in response to a formal request made by the Executive Director overseeing athletic events nationwide.
Abubakar revealed that the matter had been duly escalated to Governor Mai Mala Buni via the Sports Commissioner, Alhaji Barma Shettima, who graciously authorized the initiative.
He listed the beneficiary organizations as including the State Security Department, the Armed Forces, the Correctional Administration, and the Nigerian Police, adding that more agencies would be incorporated in subsequent phases.
The Permanent Secretary detailed the items distributed, which comprised sixteen JC sets, two size-5 balls (the larger variety), twelve pairs of boots, tracksuits, and socks for staff.
He noted that the distribution prioritises senior commanders, with the premier sets reserved for ranking officers such as State Commanders and City Commanders.
Responding shortly after receiving the equipment, Lieutenant Colonel W.O. Ahmed expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the military and other security formations.
"I am greatly honored to accept these athletic gear for our personnel. These kits will significantly aid sports growth within the security services and, perhaps, encourage stronger inter-agency bonds, especially if we organize competitions where personnel can proudly wear this uniform.
"Our officers will certainly be pleased with these provisions," said the lieutenant.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed lauded the Yobe State Government for its unwavering support and strategic collaboration with the security community, assuring that the materials would be put to optimal use to foster physical fitness and camaraderie among the troops.
