The Second Chance SAIL Foundation Education Development Initiative has been officially launched in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe North Senatorial District in a push to tackle the growing challenge of out‑of‑school children in the region.
The programme, fully sponsored by Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan,who represents the district, is designed to provide educational relief to vulnerable students and families.
The initiative was flagged off on Monday, with the first phase covering over one thousand students across seventeen secondary schools in Nguru.
Senator Lawan, in a statement delivered through the programme’s Implementation Committee, described the initiative as a direct response to the urgent crisis of child educational neglect.
He noted that it was born out of his personal commitment and a shared responsibility to secure a brighter future for the younger generation.
“This initiative is an expression of my personal commitment, and our shared responsibility, to give our young ones a second chance at a brighter and assured future. It is also my contribution in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda of our President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the APC administration,” said Senator Lawan.
The Senator commended the Yobe State Government for its sustained investment in the education sector, emphasizing that the Second Chance programme will serve as a complement to the state’s ongoing efforts."I believe that the second chance initiative and its kind will go a long way in complementing their efforts," he added.
The intervention covers the full payment of school fees, provision of free uniforms, shoes, and essential educational materials for the beneficiaries. The programme is set to be replicated across the remaining five local government areas of Yobe North Senatorial District.
Senator Lawan praised the Implementation Committee, chaired and coordinated by Comrade Bashir Sharif Tahir Nguru, for their effective coordination.
