The Mega Junior Secondary School, Buni-Yadi, was a hub of activity on Thursday as the institution officially launched its school garden and held its combined graduation and prize-giving day for the 2026 academic session.
The event highlighted the region’s steady return to normalcy following years of insurgent activities.
The occasion, which took place at the school premises, witnessed the presence of government officials, parents, traditional rulers, security personnel, teachers, as well as friends and well-wishers of the graduating students.
In his welcome address, the school Principal, Alhaji Modu Wagani, lauded Governor Mai Mala Buni for his unwavering commitment to restoring peace through education.
He noted that the government's significant investment in the sector is yielding visible results across the state.
"The graduation of 450 students comprising 250 females and 200 males is concrete proof that our region has successfully reclaimed its future," Wagani stated.
He further explained that the newly launched school garden is an initiative in line with Governor Buni's broader vision for desert reclamation and the restoration of degraded lands.
The Principal also revealed that the garden project is part of the Universal Basic Education Commission's (UBEC) Greening School and Climate Education Initiative, which aims to weave environmental stewardship into the fabric of basic education across Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Gujba Local Government Area, Alhaji Dala Malah, extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating students, describing their achievement as a testament to resilience and the collective determination of the community to embrace education despite past adversities.
He commended the parents and teachers for their unwavering support, noting that each graduand standing before the audience represented not only personal success but also a victory for the entire Buni-Yadi region, which has endured years of instability.
Alhaji Malah further charged the graduand to study diligently and remain focused as they transitioned to the next phase of their educational pursuits.
The celebration featured a rich array of activities, including the presentation of prizes to the best performing students,captivating drama presentations, and inter cultural dances and songs performed in various Nigerian languages.
