Police Uncover Illegal Gun Factory in Potiskum,Arrest Seven Suspects

The Yobe State Police Command has raided an illegal firearms fabrication workshop in Potiskum, arresting seven suspects and recovering a cache of locally made weapons and manufacturing equipment.

The operation, carried out on June 2, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., followed credible intelligence reports that blacksmiths in the Tasha Adua area, along Danchuwa Road, were secretly producing Dane guns and other firearms.

A team from the Potiskum Area Command, working alongside the Divisional Police Headquarters, raided the workshop and seized two fabricated pistols,twenty-four muzzle pipee,nine gun butts,four unserviceable Dane guns,one filing machine and one sharp cutlass.

The seven suspects are currently in custody as police launch a thorough investigation into their network, including potential buyers and the intended use of the weapons.

Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has ordered officers to intensify the probe, identify other illegal fabrication centers in the area, and assess the overall security threat posed by such operations.

“Members of the public are advised not to allow their premises or facilities to be used for unlawful activities, including the fabrication of dangerous weapons,” the Command said in a statement.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security agency.
