KACRAN Urges Herders, Farmers to Protect Farms, Respect Grazing Routes for National Peace

As the 2026/2027 farming season begins amid severe economic challenges and persistent farmer-herder conflicts, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has called on both parties to embrace restraint and mutual respect to safeguard food security.

In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, KACRAN appealed to herders nationwide to avoid destruction of farmlands during grazing or migration, warning that protecting crops is protecting Nigeria's food supply. 

The association also urged farmers to refrain from encroaching on designated grazing reserves or blocking recognized cattle routes.

KACRAN noted that insecurity has already disrupted arable and livestock production, displacing millions. With rising fuel costs and expensive farming inputs, preventable losses must be avoided, the group said.

The association called on federal and state governments to subsidize farming inputs for farmers and to revive grazing reserves with water points and feed support for herders.

KACRAN commended Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for reducing tractor hire costs from ₦100,000 to ₦50,000 per day and for commitment to reclaiming grazing reserves. 

It also praised the L-PRES programme for converting boreholes to solar power and appealed to the World Bank and Yobe State to increase funding for the initiative.
