The Yobe State government on Saturday celebrated the seventh anniversary of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration in a ceremony that also served as a platform to endorse the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for governor, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali.

The event was jointly organized by the office of the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy Delivery and the office of the Yobe State Focal Person on Cybersecurity and Information Technology.

It took place at the Arts and Culture Auditorium in Damaturu and attracted a diverse crowd, including university students, women’s groups, associations from the organised private sector, and government officials.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, outlined what he called demonstrable and measurable progress recorded by Governor Buni’s administration across several sectors.

According to him, these include education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, road construction, commerce, youth and women empowerment, and capacity building.

Bego argued that electing Baba Mallam Wali as the next governor would ensure decisive continuity in the state’s socioeconomic and infrastructural development.

The Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy Delivery, Dr. Koleh Shettima, addressed the gathering via video link and echoed Bego’s position.

The University of Maiduguri Orator, Dr. Musa Usman, who was physically present, also spoke in support of the administration’s record and the consensus candidate.

In his speech, the Focal Person on Cybersecurity and Information Technology, Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani, explained that the gathering was designed not only to celebrate Governor Buni’s seven-year milestone but also to honour the administration’s key achievements over that period.

He further stressed the need to herald the immediate transition of the State Secretary to the government as the APC’s consensus candidate.

Gulani revealed that more than twenty factions have now declared their support for Wali as the APC governorship candidate, signalling growing unity within the party ahead of the upcoming election.
