Tikau Has Never Produced a Lawmaker:Ibrahim Baba Saleh Seeks to End 24-Year Political Dry Spell

A former Daily Trust reporter’s bid for the Yobe State House of Assembly has refocused attention on a long-standing political fault line in Nangere Constituency specifically, the historic exclusion of the Tikau district from legislative representation since 1999.

Ibrahim Baba Saleh, running under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has framed his candidacy not merely as a personal ambition but as a structural correction to what he calls a systemic imbalance. 

His declaration has resonated with local elders, women, and youth who argue that Nangere has lagged behind other constituencies in democratic dividends.

"Tikau has never produced a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly from 1999 to date,” Saleh noted during a multi-ward political tour.This strengthens the case for equity, inclusion, and a deliberate shift toward giving every segment of our constituency a fair voice."

While Saleh has outlined a policy platform centered on education and vocational development,the core political narrative emerging from his campaign is one of rotational representation. 

He has downplayed any do-or-die approach, emphasizing respect for the electoral process.

Crucially, Saleh has publicly aligned with state APC leadership, praising Governor Mai Mala Buni as a political mentor and endorsing Alhaji Baba Malam Wali as the preferred gubernatorial candidate for 2027.

His declaration event concluded with royal blessings at the palace of the Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Muhammadu Grema II ,a symbolic nod to the district’s long wait for its turn at representation.
