APC Stakeholders Unite Behind Baba Malam Wali as Consensus Governorship Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State has solidified its support for Baba Malam Wali as the party's unified choice for the 2027 governorship election.

This decision was announced following a stakeholders' meeting held on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital. 

A communique issued after the gathering was read by former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, confirming that party leaders have thrown their weight behind Malam Wali as the consensus candidate.

In a significant show of unity, several key aspirants stepped down from the race to back Wali. Among those who withdrew their ambitions were Senators Ahmed Lawan, Ibrahim Bomoi, and Musa Mustapha, who represent Yobe's three senatorial districts (Zones C, B, and A respectively). Also stepping aside were former Inspector General of Police Usman Baba Alkali and former FCT Mandate Secretary Alh. Lawan Kolo.

The stakeholders pledged their full support for the party and all its candidates across various levels. 

The former aspirants further committed to folding their political structures into the party's broader campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general election.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, speaking at the event, described Malam Wali's candidacy as a guarantee of continuity for the policies, programs, and projects of the current administration. 

He praised the former aspirants for their sacrifice, noting that their decision would foster peace and unity within both the party and the state.

Buni also revealed that discussions would continue with the three remaining aspirants Bashir Machina, Engineer Maihaja, and Kashim Tumsa to persuade them to also withdraw, allowing the party to approach the upcoming national election with a united front.
