Yobe Police Launch Free Medical Care, Clean-Up Campaign to Mark National Police Day

Ahead of the 2026 National Police Day, observed annually on April 7th, the Yobe State Police Command has rolled out a series of community-focused initiatives, including a medical outreach and a statewide sanitation exercise.

The activities align with this year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.” In Damaturu, officers carried out a clean-up operation across key areas of the metropolis and set up a free health screening at the Muhammadu Buhari Ultra Modern Market.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) Musa Waziri, who represented the Commissioner of Police, explained that the events are part of preliminary activities leading up to the main celebration. He noted that the outreach is an annual effort aimed at giving back to the community.

“We are cleaning up the town and offering free medical care to those who cannot afford it. This is the essence of what we do every year,” Waziri said.

He reported a strong response from residents, adding, “The turnout has been impressive, and people are expressing their appreciation for the police providing free health services to the less privileged.”

Waziri also announced that in the coming days, the command would be presenting cheques to the families of officers who lost their lives in service. “The Inspector General of Police has made provisions for this. Starting tomorrow, we will be presenting cheques to their families to help ease the difficulties caused by the loss of their breadwinners,” he stated.

The DCP called on the public to view the police as partners, not adversaries. “We are friends of the people. Anyone in need of free medical attention should come forward for testing and medication,” he added.

Reaffirming its dedication to professionalism and community engagement, the command urged residents to support security efforts by sharing timely and useful information.
