Yobe Gov't Trains Messengers to Enhance Civic Service Efficiency

The Yobe State Government has commenced a two-day sensitization workshop for all messengers in the state Civil Service, announcing an immediate rebranding of the cadre to "Office Assistants."

The training, organized by the Office of the Head of Service at the GGC Damaturu conference hall, aims to enhance productivity and service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Declaring the workshop open, Head of Civil Service Alhaji Abdullahi Musa a Shehu stated that the initiative is part of Governor Mai Mala Buni's broader civil service reforms, triggered by rising retirements and the need for a top-to-bottom manpower development strategy.

"From today, Friday, the messenger cadre will henceforth be addressed as Office Assistants," Shehu announced.

He revealed that the government has previously trained Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and planning officers, with 150 teachers scheduled for further training after the Sallah break.

Earlier, Alhaji Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, Focal Person on training, stressed the workshop is a strategic reform move not an allowance collection exercise. 

He outlined three objectives;reorganizing the unit for efficiency, improving their contribution to governance, and upgrading their skills to align with current realities under Public Service Rules.
