Yobe State Boosts Business Climate with Judicial and Administrative Reforms

The Yobe State Ease of Doing Business Council is accelerating efforts to create a more investor-friendly environment by launching two major capacity-building initiatives focused on judicial efficiency and public sector accountability.

In a move to strengthen contract enforcement, the Council trained Magistrates, Registrars, and Sheriffs on the operations of Small Claim Courts in the capital, Damaturu. 

The training focused on streamlining procedures to resolve low-value civil disputes quickly, effectively removing bureaucratic hurdles for businesses.

Hajiya Amina Galadima, the State Focal Person for Ease of Doing Business, highlighted the economic significance of the courts. 

"By eliminating bottlenecks in contract enforcement, Small Claim Courts act as a catalyst for economic growth and significantly boost investor confidence," she stated. 

The specialized courts are currently operational across six local government areas: Damaturu, Gashua, Gujba, Nguru, Geidam, and Potiskum.

Complementing the judicial reforms, the Council held a separate workshop on February 3, 2026, for desk officers from relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).The session was dedicated to strengthening Grievance Redress Mechanisms and compliance reporting.

Galadima explained that the initiative aims to enhance transparency and service delivery within the government.

"Effective grievance systems provide structured channels for resolving complaints, which is fundamental to building public trust and maintaining investor confidence," she noted.

Participants received hands-on training in mediation, negotiation, and the specific compliance standards required by the SABER programme.

These concurrent workshops highlighted the Yobe State government's recognition that institutional efficiency and reliable dispute resolution are critical drivers of economic development. 

The coordinated reforms reflect a firm commitment to transforming the state’s business landscape.
