Herders’ Group Hails NEDC Over Transparency in Project Inspection, Calls for Sustained Funding

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its commitment to transparency and accountability following the conclusion of an extensive month-long inspection of developmental projects across the region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the  KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Moh'd Bello, praised the Commission’s leadership for subjecting its projects to what it described as the "ultimate litmus test for accountability."

According to KACRAN, the high-level tour, which included the NEDC Chairman, the Managing Director, and other top directors, signifies that the projects are "substantial, standard-compliant, and commensurate with the funds allocated."

"The inspection team, accompanied by the press for nearly 30 days, verified projects ranging from strategic roads and bridges to primary healthcare centers and educational facilities.Of particular interest to the association, which represents pastoralists in the region, was the focus on specialized water points and animal husbandry services.

"These initiatives are vital for the survival and growth of the livestock industry," the statement read. "We are heartened by the Commission’s promise to expand these water projects in the coming year."

KACRAN noted that such actions directly align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s "Renewed Hope" agenda, which prioritizes livestock reform to enhance food security, reduce import dependency on dairy and meat, and position Nigeria as a net exporter of livestock products.

The group described the NEDC as "a model of sincerity and diligence in Nigerian public service," commending the staff and management for their sacrifices in rehabilitating the North East.

Concluding its statement, KACRAN made an ardent appeal to President Tinubu to ensure the adequate and timely release of funds to the NEDC. "This will empower the Commission to sustain its extraordinary work in infrastructure provision, livestock development, humanitarian services, peace promotion, and nation-building," Hon. Bello added.
