Yobe Youth Groups Rally Behind Lawan Kolo Geidam for 2027 Gubernatorial Bid

Damaturu, Yobe State Youth organizations across Yobe State have publicly declared their support for Lawan Kolo Geidam as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was formally announced in Damaturu on Thursday by the Democratic Enlightenment for Good Governance (DEGG), a youth-based organization with a statewide network.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, DEGG Coordinator Adamu Hussaini Yunusa stated that the decision followed extensive consultations with 178 local coordinators from all of Yobe’s local government areas. The groups concluded that the state needs a leader with a strong track record in public administration, grassroots politics, and youth empowerment to drive continued development.

Yunusa highlighted Geidam’s extensive experience across local, state, and national levels of government, including previous service as a local government chairman and a civil servant. He currently serves as the Permanent Secretary for Youth Development in the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

“Lawan Kolo Geidam has consistently championed youth education, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship, guiding many young people into sustainable careers in business, the civil service, and NGOs," Yunusa said. 

He added that Geidam remains accessible and continues to mentor youths, maintaining their confidence and loyalty even while serving outside the state.

The endorsement, according to the coordinator, is also motivated by a desire to build upon existing progress in human capital development and inclusive governance. The youth groups believe Geidam has the vision and connections to attract investments and partnerships needed to strengthen infrastructure and economic growth.

In response, Adamu Yahaya Alabura, a former local government chairman and close associate of Geidam, thanked the youths for their confidence and assured them that their message would be delivered to Geidam at the appropriate time.

The move signals early grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, with Yobe’s youth positioning themselves as a key constituency in the upcoming political landscape.
