Yobe State Conducts Final Interviews for National Health Fellowship Programme

The Yobe State Ministry of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the National SWAP Coordination Office of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and other development partners, has concluded the final interview stage for Cohort 2 of the prestigious National Health Fellowship (NHF 2.0) Programme.

This critical phase aims to select highly qualified and competent candidates who will contribute to strengthening healthcare service delivery and improving health outcomes across the state and the nation.

The state-level exercise is being led by the Yobe State Coordinator for the programme, Dr. Babagana Abba. Under his supervision, the interview panel is conducting a rigorous, transparent, and merit-based assessment of shortlisted candidates. To ensure accountability and openness.

Participants at the interview described the procedure as fair and thorough.They noted that the national programme is strategically designed to build sustainable capacity within the health sector while equipping a new generation of professionals with practical field experience.

The NHF 2.0 is a nationwide initiative aimed at recruiting and placing one fellow in each of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas. 

These fellows will be instrumental in driving health sector reforms, strengthening primary healthcare systems, and improving service delivery at the grassroots level.

The credibility of the selection process is further underscored by the active participation of representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), State Ministries of Health, and other key stakeholders in the interview panels.

The programme has seen overwhelming interest, with over 150,000 applicants nationwide competing for the 774 available slots. 

This highlights the strong desire among young Nigerian professionals to contribute to the transformation of the country's health sector.

Successful candidates from Yobe and across the federation will assume a strategic role in their assigned Local Government Areas. 

Their mandate will include supporting evidence-based health planning, fostering community engagement, and implementing priority health interventions to achieve better outcomes for all Nigerians.
