Yobe Ends Era of Darkness, Brings Electricity to All Local Governments
The Yobe State Government has eradicated power exclusion at the local government level, achieving full electricity connectivity for all its council headquarters.The final connection was made to Kanamma, previously the only area without a grid link.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, disclosed this achievement during an end-of-year briefing with journalists on Friday in Damaturu.
He outlined a series of major infrastructural projects executed under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration over the past year.
He explained, the administration has undertaken a massive overhaul of the state's electricity infrastructure. Beyond connecting the last LGA, the government has fully electrified 25 villages and extended power access to over 200 communities.
"A key focus has been the rehabilitation and strengthening of critical 33KV transmission lines to improve reliability. The upgraded corridors across;Damaturu–Potiskum–Gashua,Gashua–Yunusari,Damaturu–Gashua–Yusufari,Damaturu–Babangida–Bayamari,Bayamari–Gaidam,Bukarti–Bayamari–Yunusari,Potiskum–Kukar–Gadu and Maiduwa–Gadaka 33KVA Lines.
“We have not only expanded the network but fortified it to ensure reliability and sustainability for our growing communities,” stated Alhaji Wali.
He further revealed,In a significant boost to public welfare, the government has guaranteed a 24-hour electricity supply to all general hospitals and several key government establishments across the state.
"This is transformative for our healthcare delivery and It enables constant refrigeration for vaccines and medicines, powers essential medical equipment, and fundamentally improves service quality and patient care,"said Wali
The Yobe SSG stated the state has aldo procured and installed integrated solar-powered street lights in six major urban centers of Damaturu, Buni-Yadi, Gaidam, Gashua, Nguru, and Potiskum.
He stressed that,this initiative aims to improve safety, extend business hours, and beautify the towns.
"The most symbolic accomplishment, however, remains the new 33KV line from Bukarti to Kanamma.Kanamma was the last frontier in our electrification map.
"No local government headquarters in Yobe is left behind. This is a core promise of our administration, delivered", Alhaji Wali revealed.
The SSG emphasized that these interconnected projects are foundational to the government's agenda for inclusive growth, directly paving the way for improved security, education, and economic opportunities for all residents of Yobe State.
