Professor of Surgery, Senior Administrator Appointed to Lead YSU
Yobe State University has ushered in a new leadership team following the official appointments of a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, both approved by the Yobe State Governor,Mai Mala Buni.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri.
According to the statement, Governor Buni has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor.
This approval came after a formal recommendation from the University’s Governing Council at its meeting held on January 15, 2026.
Professor Tahir brings a distinguished medical and administrative profile to the role. He is a Professor of General Surgery, a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, and until his new appointment, served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital in Damaturu.
He is set to succeed Professor Bukar Jamri, who had been serving in an acting capacity.
In a concurrent decision from the same Governing Council meeting,Mallam Isa Audu Dallari was appointed as the substantive Registrar of the university.
His appointment followed a due process recommendation by the Selection Committee, in line with the Yobe State University Law of 2006 (as amended).
Mallam Dallari, who is currently the Director of Administration at Yobe State University, is expected to assume the pivotal role of chief administrative officer.
