From Conflict to Construction: Governor Buni Showcases Yobe’s Revival at Stadium Site

The Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni has led a delegation of journalists on a tour of the reconstructed August 27th Stadium on Wednesday, using the occasion to highlight the state’s dramatic journey from insurgency to infrastructure.

Governor Buni extended his appreciation to the assembled local, national, and international press, stating their presence was vital to documenting the tangible progress on the ground. 

"You have seen for yourselves the relative peace we now enjoy and the modest projects taking shape across the state," he told reporters.

The Governor reminded attendees that the state was once an epicentre of Boko Haram violence, with the stadium site itself falling under terrorist control during the decade-long crisis.

"Where we stand today was once a space of fear and conflict. Now, it stands as a testament to the peace we have collectively achieved," Buni remarked, framing the reconstruction as a physical reclaiming of public space.

He detailed that the recovery strategy extends far beyond single projects, emphasizing a holistic, multi-sectoral approach. 

"The damage was comprehensive, so our rebuild must be as well. We are committed to restoring development across all sectors education, health, infrastructure, and economy to ensure true normalcy returns to our people,"the Governor explained.

The stadium project, he noted, is emblematic of a wider government mission to upgrade public assets, deliver value for resources, and accelerate socio-economic revival.

The media tour highlighted the state administration's efforts to transparently showcase post-conflict rebuilding, moving the narrative beyond headlines of violence to stories of resilience, restoration, and strategic investment in the people of Yobe.
