Yobe,Partners Mark UHC Day with Renewed call for Health Scheme Sign- ups

The Yobe State Government on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with a call for all residents to enroll in the state’s contributory health scheme.

The appeal was made by Dr. Babagana Tijjani, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA),during an event to commemorate the 2025 Universal Health Coverage Day.

Under the theme "Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future," in collaboration with the international organization Lafiya UK, officials highlighted the state’s steady progress in building a resilient and equitable health system.

Dr. Tijjani reported that through key initiatives like the Formal Sector Program, the State Social Equity Program, and the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), thousands of vulnerable and indigent residents have gained access to essential healthcare services.

"Our commitment remains clear: to build a people centred health system that leaves no one behind," stated Dr. Tijjani.

He outlined recent strides, including expanded coverage, strengthened verification systems, and improved provider assessments.To ensure transparency, a statewide validation of enrollee data is underway, linking beneficiaries to valid National Identification Numbers (NIN).

While celebrating these advancements, Dr. Tijjani emphasized that the day serves as a critical call to action.He urged continued investment in health financing, stronger primary healthcare, and the promotion of health-seeking behaviours.

The Executive Secretary specifically called on all citizens to actively support government efforts by enrolling in the state health scheme.

The event also served as a platform to appreciate partners, including the State Ministry of Health, the Primary Healthcare Board, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), healthcare providers, and donor agencies such as Lafiya UK, for their sustained collaboration.
