NEDC Water Projects Earn Praise from Pastoralist Community
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its strategic interventions in the region, particularly highlighting recently completed water projects as vital to pastoralist communities.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, and made available to journalists in Damaturu, the association expressed profound appreciation for the NEDC's installation of solar-powered boreholes in Dangel Lantaiwa Ward, Yobe State, and Siddikiyo Jauro Gambo Ribadu Ward, Gombe State.
According to Bello, these projects directly alleviate severe water scarcity for thousands of pastoralists and their livestock in these high-density areas, providing a critical lifeline.
KACRAN described the NEDC as a "model of responsive governance," praising its commitment to surpassing standard service delivery. The association also noted the commission's positive engagement with its recent advocacy for the greater inclusion of livestock development in future NEDC policies, calling it evidence of a listening ear and adaptive approach.
The statement further lauded the NEDC’s consistent focus on peace-building initiatives. It credited the strong synergy between the commission, state governors, local authorities, security agencies, and traditional rulers for contributing to the region’s ongoing stabilization and recovery.
To ensure the continuity of this progress, KACRAN issued a dual appeal. It called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the timely and adequate release of funds to the NEDC, describing such support as essential.
The association also urged the newly established development commissions in the North West and North Central zones to adopt the NEDC’s inclusive model of engagement to foster similar development and peace across the country.
The statement concluded with a strong vote of confidence in the NEDC’s management, specifically praising Managing Director Alhaji Mohammed Alkali and Director of Administration and Finance Dr. Garba Iliya. KACRAN described their leadership as capable and reliable, proving instrumental in the pursuit of lasting peace and sustainable development in North East Nigeria.
