WOLNY Elects Zarah Yusuf Ahmad as New Leader in Yobe
The Network of Women-Led Organizations in Yobe State (WOLNY) has elected a new leadership team to spearhead its advocacy for gender equality and women's empowerment for the next three years.
In an election held on Saturday, a slate of seasoned professionals was elected unopposed. Dr. Zarah Yusuf Ahmad was chosen as the new Executive Director.
The Chairperson of the electoral committee, Dr. Fatuma Mohammad Dada, highlighted the significance of the event. "For the first time, we are organizing a democratic election," Dr. Dada stated.
According to her,the initial leaders were simply appointed as it was the beginning."This time, we decided to mirror the democratic process in the country, ensuring leaders are chosen by the popular choice of the people."
She described the election as "very encouraging and interesting," noting an excellent response from members,with over half of the population casting their votes.
Dr. Dada further explained that the process was guided by a constitution drafted by the organization. "According to it, the members elected today will serve a single three-year term," she confirmed.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Ahmad declared the event a historic turning point. "This election marks a powerful declaration of progress; we are moving from an alliance to a republic of purpose,"she stated,emphasizing a new chapter of formalized, member-driven advocacy.
She stressed the urgency of their mission,calling for unity to address the critical challenges facing women and girls across the state.
The newly elected leadership team includes;Amina Abdullahi Abubakar as – Deputy Executive Director,Maryam Hassan Gambo- Secretary, and Aishatu Tijjani – Assistant Secretary.
Others are;Bintu Musa – Legal Director,Hauwa Sule Mamudo– Public Relations Director,Fatima Musa Auwal– Director of Gender and Social Inclusion,Maryam Suleiman Yalwa – Director of Education, Gender-Based Violence & Child Protection,Queen Amina Yusuf Auta – Director of Advocacy and Partnership,Fatsuma Nasiru–Director of Health, WASH & Livelihood and Rwada Layi– Treasurer.
