Nutrition 774 Initiative: Buni Unveils State Council, Reaffirms Commitment to Public Health






Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has Wednesday officially inaugurated a State Council on Nutrition, declaring a new front in the battle against what federal officials describe as the quietest killer in Nigeria.

The inauguration followed an advocacy visit to Damaturu by a high-level federal delegation,led by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwuka. 

The delegation was in the state to launch the Nutrition 774 Initiative, a cornerstone of the Tinubu administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, overseen by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

During the visit,the federal official delivered a stark warning, stating, Malnutrition is the quietest killer in Nigeria as it kills more dreams than conflict ever will.

She cited national data showing that one in three children under five is stunted and that malnutrition contributes to nearly half of all under-five deaths in the country.

In response,Governor Buni reaffirmed Yobe State's full alignment with the federal initiative.

"Our administration has launched massive agricultural programs to boost food security and nutrition,"Gov.Buni stated.

He highlighting the state's existing efforts to integrate nutrition into its health, education,and social protection programs.

Blueprint correspondent reports that,the newly inaugurated State Council on Nutrition is tasked with providing strategic leadership and oversight to ensure nutrition solutions are effectively implemented across Yobe. 

The initiative emphasizes a multi-sectoral approach, involving health, agriculture, education, and water sanitation.
