In Yobe:Abbari YBC Community Honours 35 Graduates at Walima Celebration

The Abbari YBC community held a grand walima ceremony to honour 35 young graduates who successfully completed their A-Level studies in 2023 and subsequently earned degrees from various universities between 2024 and 2025.

The graduates were each presented with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements. The event took place on the premises of the YBC Staff Quarters along Gujba Road, Damaturu.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of Abbari YBC, Alhaji Umar Geidam, expressed his delight at the resilience and commitment demonstrated by the graduates, who specialised in diverse fields including Law, Medicine, Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Physics, Sociology, Criminology, Nutrition, Dentistry, and Nursing.

He noted that the community now has professionals across nearly all essential disciplines and added that the knowledge acquired should be utilised to serve humanity. Alhaji Umar recalled how Western education was once rejected during their childhood but is now widely embraced due to its enormous benefits.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Alhaji Sulaiman Shuaibu, congratulated the graduates and urged them to be self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the development of their community. 

He appealed to stakeholders to support the graduates in securing employment and called on the university leadership to regularise the status of casual workers at the institution.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, Professor Bukar Jamre, represented by Professor Umar Yusuf Madaki, urged the new graduates to support the younger generation by volunteering to teach children at the primary school level. 

He further pledged assistance in securing university admissions and enhancing teamwork among prospective students.

Similarly, the PTA Chairman of the SBMC, Dr. Abubakar Mustapha, advised the graduates to apply their skills productively and embrace entrepreneurship, stressing that idleness yields nothing. 

He noted that hard work brings success both in this world and the hereafter. Dr. Mustapha also presented certificates of appreciation to all 35 graduates.

In his goodwill message, Muhammad Nasiru Albani of the Islamic Studies Department at Yobe State University, urged the youth to uphold Islamic values by continuously learning and practising their religious teachings.

Representing the Damaturu Youth Leader, Muhammad Hassan Dole encouraged the youth to rededicate themselves to serving the people of Yobe State with honesty and humility. 

He applauded Governor Buni’s administration for its achievements in the Abbari YBC community and called on the government to provide potable water, road infrastructure, and solar electricity. He also appealed for employment opportunities for graduates yet to secure jobs.

The representative of the General Manager of YBC, who is also the Director of Human Resources, Alhaji Yarima Saleh Ahmed, appreciated the contributions of Islamic teachers in shaping the moral foundation of the graduates. 

He commended the teachers for the proper upbringing of the youth and specifically praised the Headmasters of Abbari YBC & YSU Community Islamiyya School Malam Rabiu, Malam Nasiru, Dr. Mustapha, and Malam Sanusi for providing a strong foundation in childhood that enabled the students to advance to degree and master’s levels. 

He assured them of the General Manager's continued support.

Malam Bulama Umaru, the Ward Head of the community representing Lawan Shana, thanked the event organizers. On behalf of the community, he extended his heartfelt appreciation and charged the youth to always be good ambassadors of the community.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the youth and graduates, Abdulazeez Ali Gaji Bularafa expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah. 

He appreciated the moral and financial support from the community and urged his peers to remain God-fearing, disciplined, and dedicated to the service of humanity in their various workplaces and endeavours. 

He also commended the leadership of the Abbari YBC community and the Abbari Youth Development Initiative, especially the Youth Secretary, Umar Farouq Sulaiman, and the Abbari Community Chairman, Umar Muhammad Geidam, for their resilience.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer led by the Chairman of the Abbari_YBC Community Ummah Masjid, Alhaji Modu Gashua, who prayed for Allah’s blessings, protection, and continued success for all the graduates.
