ASCON:Gov. Buni Honoured with Award of Excellence for Transformative Leadership in Yobe




Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni,has been conferred with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his unwavering commitment to human capital development and the transformation of the public service in Yobe State.

The prestigious award was presented by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) at a recent event, where the Yobe State Head of Service, who represented the Governor, described the honour as a "well-deserved tribute to a people-oriented leader."

The Head of Service,Alhaji Abdullah Shehu Musa highlighted Governor Buni’s extensive support for civil servants, citing a range of key initiatives that have significantly improved workers' welfare.

According to him, these include the prompt payment of salaries, the provision of affordable housing, the payment of furniture allowances, and the distribution of welfare materials.

"In a landmark move, the administration has also settled all outstanding gratuity liabilities for retired civil servants, an act described as a mark of compassion and dedication.

"Furthermore, the administration has strengthened the state’s civil service through massive recruitment and training programmes, both within and outside Nigeria,"said the Head of Service.

The State Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning,Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, disclosed that Governor Buni has directed the establishment of a formal succession plan and training guide. 

He noted that these strategic measures, along with the appointment of a dedicated Focal Person, have greatly boosted morale within the workforce.

Yusuf reaffirmed the government’s commitment to capacity building, revealing that 34 Permanent Secretaries were recently trained at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), while 149 civil servants underwent training at ASCON.

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Funke Femi Adepoju, the Director General of ASCON, appreciated Governor Buni’s visionary leadership and partnership with the College. 

She underscored the administration's strong investment in its workforce,noting that Yobe State recorded the largest number of participants in ASCON’s training history.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary for Manpower Development, Alh. Abas Isa Bizi, described the award as a celebration of the state's commitment to excellence in human capital development.

He expressed gratitude to ASCON for recognizing Governor Buni’s efforts, describing the honour as a testament to the power of visionary leadership and strategic investment in people.
