In Yobe:Foundation Enrolls 2,000 Vulnerable,Orphaned Children in School

The Usman Ali Sulaiman Charity Foundation has enrolled 2,000 vulnerable and orphaned children from the Nangere/Potiskum Federal Constituency into school.

The event, held under the theme, "Education for Every Child: Supporting Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Vision for a Literate Yobe," gathered government officials, traditional rulers, politicians, parents, guardians, and the newly enrolled children.

Speaking at the pupil enrollment support event in Potiskum Local Government Area, the Director of the Usman Ali Suleiman Charity Foundation, Mohammed Ibrahim Dan Shehu, explained that the foundation has multiple objectives, with education being a primary focus.

He stated that the foundation aims to complement government efforts in reducing the number of out-of-school children.

"To achieve this, we decided to enroll approximately 2,000 pupils into various primary schools in Nangere and Potiskum, an initiative being launched today.

"The decision to undertake this enrollment program was informed by the educational challenges in Yobe State, which was significantly impacted by insurgent activities.

"This has led to educational lags and many children roaming the streets or engaging in illegal activities. Recognizing the critical need at the beginning of the new academic session, the foundation chose to focus on student enrollment," said Dan Shehu.

In his remarks, Mustapha Mohammed Gujba, Yobe State Focal Person on Almajiri and Out-of-School Children, commended the Foundation's efforts.

He highlighted Governor Mai Mala Buni's significant investments in building new schools and infrastructure across the state and urged parents to take full advantage of these facilities.

Mr. Gujba identified poverty and insecurity as the primary reasons children are kept out of school.

He revealed, “With the intervention of charities like this Foundation, many more vulnerable children will now have the opportunity to receive an education."

To ensure a strong start for the students, the Usman Ali Sulaiman Charity Foundation provided each child with a complete set of learning materials, including school bags, exercise books, school uniforms, writing materials, and registration forms.
