Dr. Abubakar Iliya Elected as DOSA National President
In a landmark event, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, the Executive Director of Administration and Finance for the North East Development Commission (NEDC), was unanimously elected as the National President of the Government Secondary School Damaturu Old Students Association (DOSA).
His unopposed election took place during the association's 4th Congress, held from October 3rd to 5th, which was recorded as the largest and most successful gathering in DOSA's history, attracting over 300 distinguished alumni.
A central achievement celebrated at the congress was the inauguration of a new multi-purpose hall for the school,now known as the Government Girls College Damaturu.Dr. Iliya underscored the association's commitment to giving back to their alma mater.
"The main reason we initiated this project was to give back to society and to the school," Dr. Iliya stated. "This hall, constructed through the NEDC, has a capacity for 450 people and is intended to ensure the school's sustainability by serving as a source of revenue generation."
He clarified that while the NEDC funded and executed the construction, the project was initiated by DOSA. Leveraging his role at the commission, Dr. Iliya facilitated the inclusion of the project in the NEDC's 2025 education budget.
Other newly appointed executive include;Vice President,Col. Kaumi Zanna (rtd),National Coordinator,Wakil Adamu,General Secretary,Alhaji Bukar Kime,Deputy National Coordinator,Ali Idirisa Madaki, and Assistant Secretary,Kadai Ma'aji Jumbam.
Other key officials appointed were Fatime Usman Goji as Treasurer, Fati Aliyu as Assistant Treasurer, Adamu Saidu as Financial Secretary, Hauwa Ibrahim Madubi as Assistant Financial Secretary, Awwalu Saleh Laminu as Public Relations Officer, Aminu Justice Idjive as Legal Adviser, Dorothy Bello Tarfa as Director of Socials, Idi Ali as Assistant Director of Socials, and Mr. Emanuel Zakari as Internal Auditor.
Dr. Iliya offered words of inspiration to current students, emphasizing the core value that paved the way for the alumni's success."One of the things that brought us this far was the discipline we learned here.We encourage students to be disciplined and guided both at home and in school.
