2025:Yobe Gov't, Red Cross Champion Hand Hygiene on Global Stage

The Yobe State Government, in partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, joined the global community on Wednesday to mark the 2025 World Hand Hygiene Day, with leaders highlighting the life-saving importance of the simple act and its deep roots in religious practice.

The commemorative event, held at the Yobe Motor Park and Government House in Damaturu, featured a high-level advocacy visit from Red Cross officials to the state government.

Representing Governor Mai Mala Buni,the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, underscored the critical role of handwashing in preventing disease.

According to him, handwashing is very important in people's lives as it maintains hygiene at all levels.

He said many of the diseases that people are battling can be prevented because the hand is the catalyst for introducing unwanted parasites into the body system.

He commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society and its volunteers for their efforts in enlightening the public and urged all citizens of Yobe to support the initiative.

Earlier in his briefing, the Branch Secretary of the Yobe Red Cross Society, Garba Abubakar Alhaji Mai, announced that the organization was joining the world to celebrate Global Handwashing Day.

He emphasized that daily handwashing is a critical practice capable of saving many lives.

He expressed the Society's appreciation for the opportunity to conduct the advocacy visit and brief the Governor on their ongoing programs.

Adding his voice,the Yobe Branch Chairman of the Red Cross, Dr. Muluma Idi Mato, described the day as remarkable.

In a highlight of the event, a symbolic presentation of T-shirt was presented to the Deputy Governor, signaling the commencement of the Handwashing Day celebration in the State.
