In Yobe:Major Coalition Launches "Greening Nigeria" Initiative to Combat Climate Crisis

A powerful coalition of international bodies,government agencies,and private sector players,led by The Tulip International Foundation,united on Tuesday to advance Nigeria's climate resilience through a new national workshop titled "Greening Nigeria."

The initiative has the theme,"Greening Nigerian: Strengthening Communities through climate Action and Partnership",aims to tackle severe environmental degradation,particularly desertification in the north,by fostering unprecedented collaboration between all levels of society.

In her address during the climate Action conference,Aisha Abdulaziz Adamu,a representative of Marchi and Tulips International foundation,framed the project as a critical shield for the ecosystem and a guiding legacy for future generations. 

She emphasized that while individual action is the starting point, collective effort is the only path to success on a global stage.

Aisha explained without partnership and collaboration,they cannot go anywhere. "It's not about me, and it's not about you; it's about all of us moving forward together. We should not operate in silos, but as a unified system," said Aisha.

Identifying climate change as an anthropogenic or human-made crisis, she stressed the dual need to mitigate past damage and adapt to unavoidable changes.

To achieve this,she outlined a comprehensive partnership that involves the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Youth, the Great Green Wall, and traditional rulers, Imams, and pastors. "This is a communal process, and everybody must be involved," she added.

Echoing the urgency, Dr. Babagana Bosso, Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at Yobe State University, detailed the severe threats facing northern Nigeria.

He described climate change as a "major thorn in our flesh," driven by what he termed the "three primary threats": drought, desertification, and deforestation.

Dr. Bosso explained that the "Greening Nigeria" workshop was inspired by the need to address these interconnected challenges. The initiative is built on three core pillars: community strengthening, climate action, and collaboration.

"As you know, climate change is not a one-man affair; it is multi-stakeholder and multifaceted," said Dr. Bosso.
