Mai Bukar Memorial Boarding Science Primary School Celebrates 15th Graduation Ceremony,Prize Giving Day

Mai Bukar Memorial Boarding Science Primary School in Machina celebrated its 15th Graduation Ceremony and Prize Giving Day, marking a significant milestone in the school's history.

Founded in 2005 by Hajiya Inna Mai Bukar, former Education Secretary and former Caretaker Committee Chairperson of Machina Local Government Area, the boarding school aimed to educate and train children in science and technology. It began with 90 pupils.

The school initially discontinued its boarding operations due to a change in local government administration and other circumstances. However, approximately three years ago, it resumed boarding status, facilitated by the Local Government Council under Alhaji Bukar A. Bukar and local philanthropists. This development aligned with Governor Mai Mala Buni's commitment to the educational development of Yobe State, and the Governor promptly approved the boarding school's reopening.

Since then, Hon. Bukar A. Bukar, who facilitated the reopening alongside Liman Alhaji Dabuwa, Managing Director of Damuli Investment Company Limited, has been committed to ensuring the school operates according to its defined objectives. Notably, rural underprivileged children, constituting 69% of the student population, have benefited significantly.

This 15th ceremony marks the third graduation of a cohort of 100 boarding students whose excellence exceeded expectations, demonstrating the success of the investments made.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam,appreciated the school's performance and commended all contributors to its success. He emphasized the significance of desire, commitment, and mission in achieving goals.

The Governor highlighted his administration's support;"Upon assuming office, we prioritized education, and this school was among the institutions we pledged to revive. We carried out extensive rehabilitation, improved facilities, enhanced staff and student welfare, and created a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. To ensure the school's sustainable operation, I approved a monthly payment of ten million naira for running costs, covering feeding, teaching materials, and general maintenance."

According to the Governor, this intervention ensures uninterrupted academic activities and allows pupils to learn comfortably and with dignity.

While congratulating the graduating students, he advised them to continue working hard to make the state and country proud. He announced a personal donation of two million naira to the school.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Machina Local Government Council, Idriss Mai Bukar, represented by the Director of Personnel Management, Mohammed Yaro, thanked all who contributed to reviving the school after more than a decade of dormancy.

The Headmaster, Musa Umar, expressed gratitude for his position, noting he is the first headmaster to graduate students trained according to the school's founding goals. He thanked the state Governor for approving the school's reopening and the founder, Hajiya Inna Mai Bukar Machinama. 

He also commended all contributors, notably Liman Alhaji Dabuwa, Managing Director of Damuli Investment Company Limited, and Dr. Kole Shettima, Director of the MacArthur Foundation.

At the event, Liman Alhaji Dabuwa presented a multimillion-naira bank cheque, learning materials, food items for teachers, laptop computers, and other cash and non-cash support as a personal donation, amounting to approximately 33 million naira.

The ceremony featured dramas, debates, pi recitation, and various other student presentations and performances. Awards were also presented to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Hajiya Inna Mai Bukar Machinama, Dr. Kole Shettima, Liman Alhaji Dabuwa, and others who contributed to the school's success.

In an interview, Liman Alhaji Dabuwa stated, "As a businessman, I find fulfillment in helping people achieve their dreams and communities attain development. I was particularly motivated by Governor Mai Mala Buni's commitment to revamping the education sector and chose to focus my efforts, especially within my community."
