NEDC distributes building materials to flood affected Communities in Yobe
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has flagged off the distribution of building materials to flood-affected persons in Yobe State.
The NEDC is collaborating with the Yobe State Government to support flood-affected communities across 13 local government areas.
The Managing director,NEDC, Mohammad Goni Alkali said,the floods had severe impacts on Yobe communities, societies, and livelihoods, prompting the need for support.
Representated by Prof Ibrahim Ali Abbas,Yobe NEDC Coordinator,Alkali stated that,the commission provided building materials, including roofing materials, to support the rebuilding of homes.
"The NEDC has also provided rescue equipment to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to enhance their capacity and efficiency in disaster response.
"We believes that the materials will enhance SEMA's capacity,efficiency, and safety in disaster response",said Alkali.
The NEDC Managing Director urged stakeholders to ensure fair and transparent distribution of the materials.
Flagging off the distribution of the building materials, Yobe State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and disaster Management,Dr Mairo1 Ahmed Amshi commended the NEDC for the timely intervention and praised the state's humanitarian team for their efforts.
The Commissioner recalled that the state government had previously provided critical assistance to vulnerable communities affected by floods across the state.
He urged community leaders to ensure that the materials are used judiciously and for their intended purpose of rebuilding homes.
