MEDCI Tours Potiskum-Ngojin, Fadawa-Daya Road Project for On-the-Ground Assessment

The Media and Disability Care Initiative (MEDCI) embarked on an inspection tour of the 2.5 kilometers Potiskum-Ngojin road construction in Potiskum Local Government Area and 5 kilometers Fadawa-Daya road construction in Fika Local Government Area in Yobe State to assess its condition and progress.

The visit,led by the Executive Director of MEDCI, Rajab Mohammed Ismail, and his team, was committed to monitoring infrastructure development in the state. 

Speaking after touring the road projects, Rajab revealed that the inspection aimed to provide firsthand insights into the road's condition, ensuring transparency and accountability in government projects.

Rajab emphasized the importance of media oversight in tracking public infrastructure to ensure quality delivery for the benefit of citizens.He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for prioritizing road projects that connect rural communities, boosting economic activities, and improving accessibility.

"We also extend our gratitude to Commissioner of Works, Engineer Umaru Wakil Duddaye, for his efforts in ensuring that these projects are executed properly and without compromise,"said Rajab.

A commuter from the Ngojin community,Idi Mohammad Madaki, expressed his appreciation for the new road,citing the transportation challenges it has alleviated.

In an interview with the village head of Ngojin B, Bulama Haruna Ngojin, praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for the intervention, recalling how the poor state of the road had previously hindered agricultural trade and access to healthcare.

"This road is new to us; we never had it. We only saw such roads in other places, but we are lucky to have this one in our community. We really commend anyone who contributed towards the actualization of this road to our community," said the Ngojin village head.

On his part,a resident of Daya Community, Idi Mohammad Madaki,explained that they had been searching for the road since the Bukar Abba regime but fortunately had finally gotten it under the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

"Previously, it took us one hour to reach Fadawa, but with the construction of this road, it now takes just five minutes to get to Fadawa and ten minutes to Potiskum from Daya. We commend Governor Buni for his efforts in ensuring that the people of Daya benefit from this administration's dividends of democracy," he added.

In an interview with the site engineer handling the Fadawa-Daya road project, Alhaji Saleh Mustapha, stated that the road construction is a 5-kilometer direct labor project linking Fadawa to Daya communities.

"We started the asphalt work last week, so it's been about five to six days now. Since this is the rainy season, when constructing a road, we first focus on the carriageway. After completing that, we then regulate the shoulders. That's why I prioritized the carriageway to prevent water from disrupting the project," said the site engineer Mustafa.

He further revealed that the new contracted road currently connects Fadawa to Daya and surrounding areas. Along the route, three or four villages will benefit from improved access to the main road, linking them to Bauchi State and other communities in the state.

Governor Buni's administration has been actively executing road projects across Yobe, with the Potiskum-Ngojin and Fadawa-Daya roads being one of several initiatives aimed at improving rural infrastructure.

The MEDCI inspection underscores the vital role of the media in fostering development through objective reporting and constructive engagement with government policies.
