Nguru Clinches KMT Unity Cup Title, Promoting Unity and Sportsmanship in Yobe

Nguru Local Government Area emerged victorious in the inaugural KMT Unity Cup football final on Saturday, defeating Potiskum LGA 5-1 in a closely contested match at Damaturu's Miyatti Sport Arena.

The tournament, spearheaded by prominent developmental activist, Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah,culminated in a showcase of sporting talent and its core mission ,fostering unity among Yobe State's youth

Hassan Bijod, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, emphasized the event's significance beyond the pitch.

"This tournament serves as a pilot test.The main KMT Unity Cup competition will launch soon, beginning at the grassroots ward level and progressing through local government areas before reaching the state finals,"Hassan stated.

He highlighted Barrister Tumsah's unwavering commitment to state unity, drawing parallels to Nelson Mandela's historic use of sports for national cohesion.

 "Just as Mandela united South Africa through cricket, Barrister Tumsah recognizes football's unique power as the 'glue' binding our youth together," Bijod explained.

Featuring teams representing six distinct areas across Yobe's three territorial zones, the pilot tournament saw Nguru triumph. 

"The champions will receive ₦500,000, runners-up Potiskum take home ₦300,000, and all participating clubs earn ₦100,000 in recognition.

Bijod reiterated Barrister Tumsah's central message resonating throughout the event. "Youth, unite for the development of this state. Division breeds underdevelopment, while unity is the essential foundation for progress and prosperity."

The KMT Unity Cup marks a significant initiative leveraging sports to bridge divides and empower Yobe's next generation.
