KMT Empowers Student Unions with ₦1.75M for Campus Welfare in Landmark Yobe Initiative

Student Union Governments (SUGs) across Yobe State's tertiary institutions are set to launch significant welfare projects following a direct ₦1.4 million cash injection from the inaugural Kashim Musa Tumsah (KMT-BOND) JAMB Prize Event.

In a move shifting focus from solely rewarding academic excellence to actively empowering student leadership, the Kashim Musa Tumsah (KMT-BOND) committee directed the substantial sum specifically to student representative bodies to address pressing campus needs.

The core of this empowerment strategy saw ₦1.4 million distributed equally among the SUGs of seven key institutions, includes;Yobe State University (YSU)College of Administrative and Business Studies Potiskum (CAMTECH) and Federal University Gashua (FUGA)

Others Includes;College of Education Gashua (COEGA) Federal Polytechnic Damaturu (FEDPODAM) Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum (FCE-T) and College of Agriculture Science and Technology Gujba (COASTG).

Each SUG received ₦200,000,explicitly earmarked by the committee for implementing "vital welfare initiatives" designed by the students, for the students. 

The funding empowers unions to directly tackle challenges like hardship support, essential amenities, or specific programs identified on their campuses.

Recognizing the broader student movement, the initiative also allocated ₦200,000 to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)and ₦150,000 to the National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS National)

This brings the total direct allocation to student union bodies to ₦1.75 million a significant investment in their capacity to serve.

While the event also celebrated academic achievement with ₦2.9 million in JAMB prizes awarded to outstanding Yobe students, Chairman Gimba Suleiman Hassan emphasized the broader vision,"It was more than an awards ceremony; it became a celebration of intellect, compassion, and our shared responsibility towards each other."

He reinforced the committee's guiding principle,"The true measure of greatness lies in our ability to lift others as we climb," highlighting the deliberate choice to put resources directly into the hands of student leaders for welfare purposes.

The event further demonstrated its commitment to support through tuition fee refunds for six students with disabilities, travel reimbursements for disabled attendees, cultural performances, and a community-focused condolence visit with financial aid directed by Alhaji Kashim Musa Tumsah.
