KACRAN Applauds Federal Ministry of Agriculture, FAO’s Digitalization Initiative

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has lauded the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for their collaborative efforts to digitalize Nigeria’s agricultural sector, describing the initiative as a transformative step toward food security and modernization.  

The commendation follows the successful FAO Digital Villages Initiative (DVI) Inception Workshop held in Lagos where over 100 stakeholders including government officials, Agri-tech startups, researchers, and farmers convened to co-design the National Integrated Digital Agriculture Platform (NIDAP).

Under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the workshop outlined a roadmap to digitize agricultural value chains, enhance farmer data systems, reduce post-harvest losses, and pilot innovative solutions such as AI-driven pest control and solar-powered cold hubs.

KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello,praised the initiative, stating that it reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to agricultural productivity.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s projected status as the third most populous nation by the end of the century necessitates such technological advancements to ensure food sufficiency.  

The association also commended FAO Nigeria and ECOWAS Representative, Mr. Kouacou Dominique Koffy, and his team for their exceptional coordination and technical contributions.  

In a somber note, KACRAN expressed deep condolences over the passing of Dr. Mustapha Ayo Papoola (MAP), the Executive Director of RIKE-SD, who played a pivotal role in compiling the workshop’s final report for FAO’s implementation.  

Dr. Papoola was laid to rest on the same day the report was to be submitted, with dignitaries including the Honourable Ministers of Agriculture and Livestock Development, FAO representatives, and members of the scientific community in attendance.  

KACRAN prayed for the repose of his soul, stating,“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen."

 

The association reaffirmed its support for the digital agriculture initiative, urging swift implementation of the workshop’s recommendations to boost Nigeria’s food production capacity.
