Yobe Deputy Governor Praises Governor Buni’s Trust,Highlights Agricultural Reforms

Yobe State Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana has lauded Governor Mai Mala Buni for his unwavering trust and delegation of critical responsibilities, crediting the governor’s leadership for enabling transformative agricultural programs and inclusive governance in the state.  

Speaking during an interview at his office in Damaturu on Monday, Gubana emphasized that Governor Buni’s “love, concern, and care” have empowered him to represent the state at high-profile forums traditionally reserved for governors.

These according to him include; the National Economic Council (NEC) and the Northeast Governors’ Forum (NEGF), where Gubana now actively participates on behalf of the state.  

“His Excellency has given me all the opportunities and authority to act on his behalf within and outside the state. This includes NEC meetings and Northeast Governors’ Forum engagements, which governors typically attend. I am deeply grateful for the strong relationship between us,” Gubana stated.  

The deputy governor highlighted Yobe’s agricultural sector as a cornerstone of Governor Buni’s poverty-alleviation strategy, noting that over 80% of the state’s population engages in farming.

" Last year, the administration allocated over ₦14 billion to procure tractors, machinery, seeds, and fertilizers all distributed free to farmers. This investment, Gubana revealed, spurred a 150% boost in agricultural productivity, helping crisis-affected communities regain economic stability.  

“This initiative has revitalized communities and restored livelihoods,” he said, underscoring how the program has enabled vulnerable populations, particularly those displaced by insurgency, to rebuild their lives".

Gubana also reflected on his working relationship with Governor Buni, acknowledging their contrasting approaches to governance.While describing himself as “strict” in addressing lapses, he praised Buni’s patience and tolerance in handling misconduct.  

“Our religion teaches us the virtues of patience and goodness. His Excellency exemplifies this. If someone acts improperly, I address it directly even if it means escalating it to him. But he often chooses tolerance,” Gubana remarked.  

The deputy governor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Buni’s vision, stating that collaborative leadership has been pivotal to Yobe’s progress.  

As the state continues to rebuild from years of conflict, Gubana’s remarks highlight a partnership rooted in mutual respect and shared goals for development.
