Yobe: Ahmed Abba Re-elected as Chairman of NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel

Ahmed Isah Abba,a reporter with News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN)has successfully been re-elected as the Chairman of the Correspondents' Chapel under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

His re-election reflects the confidence that his colleagues have in his leadership and vision for the future of journalism in the region.

During the inauguration ceremony held on Tuesday in Damaturu, Abba expressed heartfelt gratitude to Allah, the Electoral Committee, NUJ leadership, and the chapel members for their support and trust. 

In his acceptance speech, he highlighted key priorities for his upcoming term, including the promotion of unity among journalists, the commitment to ethical journalism, and the incorporation of emerging technologies to elevate media practices.

Abba emphasized the importance of accountability and a forward-looking approach in the chapel's role in driving societal development.

He vowed to build upon the accomplishments achieved during his first term while remaining aware of the challenges that lie ahead. His dedication to “diligence, fairness, and accountability” sets a promising tone for the future.

Understanding the media’s critical role in shaping public perception, especially in light of Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, Abba urged his colleagues to remain steadfast in their commitment to truth and national interest. 

He praised the efforts of security agencies and called for accurate and constructive storytelling to foster social cohesion, particularly in the wake of recent incidents in other regions.

Abba stressed the need for journalists to leverage digital tools to enhance efficiency and reach a broader audience. 

He extended his appreciation to Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and Information Commissioner Alhaji Abdullahi Bego for their support and urged all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to recognize journalists as “partners in progress.” He encouraged collaborative storytelling to highlight the significant developmental strides made by the state.

Other Excos are Musa Buba Mingyi of Channels Television as Vice Chairman, Habibu Gimba Idris of DailyTrust as Secretary and Sa'adatu Maina of Neptune Prime as Treasurer of the Chapel.
