PDP EXCOs in Yobe Decry Alleged Breach of Constitution in Congresses

Executive members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) across Yobe State’s 17 local government areas have raised concerns over alleged constitutional violations during recent ward and local government congresses conducted by the party’s state leadership.  

The aggrieved members, addressing journalists on Friday at Olive Petal Hotel’s conference hall in Damaturu, accused the state executive council of sidelining grassroots members and disregarding the party’s constitution during the congresses held on May 8 and May 13, 2025.  

State Legal Adviser Barrister Ahmad Idriss Waziri emphasized that the PDP’s constitution, which he described as “supreme to all members,” was not adhered to in the processes. “Card-carrying members, ward executives, and local government executives across all 17 LGAs were excluded from participating in these congresses,” he stated.  

Barrister Waziri further alleged that the state executive council unilaterally conducted the exercises without involving statutory delegates, thereby undermining democratic principles. “This exclusion has created discontent among loyal party members who feel their voices have been suppressed,” he added.  

The executives urged the party’s zonal and national leadership to intervene ahead of the upcoming state congress scheduled for May 17, 2025, to prevent a recurrence of the alleged irregularities.

 “We call on the national body to ensure transparency and fairness in the next phase of the process to uphold the party’s integrity,” Waziri said.  

The PDP stakeholders also warned that failure to address the grievances could deepen internal divisions and weaken the party’s prospects in future elections.
